How Common Is The Stomach Flu And The Common Cold In Florida?

We are from Minnesota and the stomach flu, influenza, and the typical cold are extremely prevalent from October to March. We are considering moving to Florida, and have been questioning if there is a cold/flu season in Florida like there is in Minnesota? Are these illnesses frequent in Florida?

How Common Is The Stomach Flu And The Common Cold In Florida?

Postby caffar » Sat Feb 01, 2014 2:43 pm

So does this mean people in Florida get viruses and colds easily during the October thru March season, like in Minnesota? Are there certain months in which these are more common? In Minnesota, colds and flu are almost non-existant during the summer. That's not to say no one ever gets sick in summer, it's just a rare occurence. I'm wondering specifically when is the most common time to develop these sickness. Or, perhaps, in Florida there is no flu and cold season, you can just as easily catch something in July as you can in January? Any insight would be helpful.

JEMS_Mom said: 1 Its common anywhere. Anytime you move to a new community, you are going to be sick. You are used to the "cooties" of your normal area..then you move into to a new place with "cooties" you aren't immune to. Take it from a military wife/mom....you get sick when you move. What you have to watch out for in Florida are the skeeters, roaches(doesnt matter how clean you are..you WILL have them) and hurricanes ..oh..and tornadoes. I suggest making it a habit to drink echinacea tea and taking vitamin c and zinc...but I am not a doc...that is just what I do for my family and our doctors have said its a good idea and doesnt hurt. Check with yours first though. 59 months ago

minn_mom3 replied to post #1: 4 We are planning on moving to the Ocala area. I assume you have lived in Florida? What area? The skeeters and tornadoes we are used to here in Minnesota, but cockroaches in the home...I need to know more. What are we talking here...a sighting once in a while or herds running through my living room on a weekly basis? Also, we heard something about lixards being in the home...is this true? If so, how often do you find a lizard in your house? What about snakes? 59 months ago
