How do i find out if there is a warrant for my arrest?

Postby dalon » Tue Dec 20, 2011 4:36 pm

I was charged for steeling from my employer last July in Scotland. I have never heard anything since then. I was told that the crown office have 120 days to bring to court under scottish law. That passed in december. I have not heard anything but moved a month ago so don't live in the address they have and can get any mail that may have been there. The courts in England have my address as they have sent me a letter about a fine for a traffic offence so I assume that the crow office in scotland would have this now. I am worried there may be a warrant out for me if I have missed a letter but don't know how to fine out without going to the police.

You go to a police station and ask a police officer if you are a wanted person......simples.

Anyone who tells you to call them is wrong....They will not do a PNC check over the phone, you could be anyone pretending to be you.

You could always call them or have a girl or someone call for you saying shes romantically involved with you and heard you had a warrant and wanted to know if it was true. They aren't going to come kick your door down looking for you for theft. It's not like its murder or you're severely wanted.

How do i find out if there is a warrant for my arrest?

I would phone a police force and put this to them (i.e. am I wanted). They will do a Person Name Check and will say yes or no! Say if you are you will attend a police station. Its upto you if you do. They arn't going to speed with blues and twos going for these minor offences.

They will not tell you over the phone you could be anyone trying to find out. You will have to take ID and either go into a police station or your local Courts.

With reference to the 120 days this only means that the warrant has to be issued prior to that and if you are shown as wanted you will be wanted for the rest of your life until caught.
As mentioned you have to go into a police station and ask, they cannot do it over the phone, ensure you go into the police station when you have no prior appointments as you will be kept in until the next court is in sitting, go in about 8 in the morning as the courts start at 10ish so you can be done and dusted in hours.
All this sounds grim but it is a procedure that needs to be followed, it would be better than getting stopped on a Saturday afternoon and having to stay in the cells until Monday morning. Hopefully you will not be wanted anyway and I am sure you don't steal anymore.
