How Do You Become A Honorary Kentucky Admiral

No such thing The term "Kentucky Colonel" has nothing to do with serving.  It's an honorary title given to people who may not have served in the military but have done other good works for the state.  Kentucky was proud of its colonels in the War of 1812(and later in the Civil War), but doesn't seem to have felt strongly about its admirals. (Or its naval captains, the rank most closely corresponding to the colonel.) You don't even have to be from Kentucky to be a Kentucky Colonel.  You just have to have impressed another Kentucky Colonel enough to have him or her recommend you to the governor.  You sound like you've done some good service for the state of Kentucky.  Part of the trick is that you have to be part of the "old boys' club", or otherwise famous, so that somebody takes notice of you.  Perhaps your former Reserves commander, or your fire station chief, knows somebody who knows somebody. How Do You Become A Honorary Kentucky Admiral

Yes, there is a Kentucky Admiral commission. It s an honorary commission given for extraordinary service to the Commonwealth. It is awarded by the secretary of the cabinet that oversees the natural resources department, most likely at the behest of the Governor.   Kycolonel 34 months ago

How Do You Become A Honorary Kentucky Admiral

Postby Wolcott » Sat Mar 08, 2014 4:45 pm

I am a Kentucky Admiral think I received it in 1999 by the Kentucky Professional Photography Association when I was chairman of the Board. It has nothing to the military, it was given for volunteer work. Not much is known about only a few have received it.. Don't know why? Here is what the card reads:(Also there is a large certifate which looks almost like my KY Colonel)But the card reads: Honorable my name has been duly commissioned an ADMIRAL in consideration and recognition of fair and just guardianship of the rich natural resources and environmental wealth of Kentucky entailing a solemn charge to honorably defend and promote the stewartship, creative use, innovative renewal and faithful restoration of our environmental heritage. Signed by looks like JAMES E. BIRSFORD - Secretary(cannot make out last name)Hope this helps   wdh 28 months ago

I received my certificate as a Kentucky Admiral in the 1960s as a college student. I have never found anyone who has received that honor nor have I been able to find much information about the certification on line.
What I have learned, I have learned from this blog. In the past when I have mentioned being an Admiral, I have received odd looks and then told there is no such thing. However, I have the framed certificate as proof and signed by the late Gov. Nunn. I am also a Kentucky Colonel. I just never pull out my framed certification to prove my appointment to anyone. I recently looked at it to make sure I hadn't lost my mind. And yes, I'm a Kentucky Admiral.
Is there any record of those of us who are Admirals?? Is there any place where an Admiral Lisence plate can be purchased, similar to the KY Colonel? Is there a place to find additional information? Thank you for any response I receive from this post.

I also hold the certificate that reads I am a Kentucky Admiral. I got mine in 2010 from helping a retired Armed Services General during a very stress filled day he was having. I keep mine framed as well. I'm not sure what the purpose is or what I can do with it, other than enjoy looking at it and knowing that this was gifted to me for just stopping and helping someone in need.
You never know who the person will be and they might not do anything for you at all in return. But when someone does bring it back full circle, it makes you feel real good inside. If one should look at my public cover pic on facebook you will see it there Proudly displayed.
