No such thing The term "Kentucky Colonel" has nothing to do with serving. It's an honorary title given to people who may not have served in the military but have done other good works for the state. Kentucky was proud of its colonels in the War of 1812(and later in the Civil War), but doesn't seem to have felt strongly about its admirals. (Or its naval captains, the rank most closely corresponding to the colonel.) You don't even have to be from Kentucky to be a Kentucky Colonel. You just have to have impressed another Kentucky Colonel enough to have him or her recommend you to the governor. You sound like you've done some good service for the state of Kentucky. Part of the trick is that you have to be part of the "old boys' club", or otherwise famous, so that somebody takes notice of you. Perhaps your former Reserves commander, or your fire station chief, knows somebody who knows somebody.
