It's not as hard as you might think.... There are two great resources for you to try online filing. Assuming that as a first time filer your situation is very simple, you will likely be filing a 1040 EZ. Here are the places you can go to figure out what you need to do. If your situation is more complicated, you can still do it online, but you may need to pay a little to use the online software. If I were you, I would go straight to Turbotax: http://turbotax.intuit.com/ -- There they have free software you can use to do your return and file online. It is very EASY to use. They walk you thru an interview process, ask you questions and actually fill out the forms for you. Great resource. I am a tax professional and I use this software(and the interview feature) to do my own return. It is truly exceptional. It will either be free or cost $49.95 depending on the complexity of your return. You can try it first and see what you will be required to pay before you commit. Or you can use the IRS website as an option: http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html -- The IRS now offers the ability to file for free with their software. It is only for very easy returns. I have never used it, but the reviews on the free efiling program are very good. Either of these two websites should tell you everything you need to get your taxes done right!
