All cases take a while, depending on what you are paying for your lawyer... You are not their only client likely ;-)
Persistence is the key though! If you can't hear back from your lawyer, call, call call!
You might feel like you are burdening and annoying the help, but after all... that IS what they're paid for. Lawyers have bills to pay too (including HUGE student loans), so don't be offended if they tend to put your "tire-kicker" case on the back burner, they just have to make money. Make yourself un-ignorable and they will get back to you.
Gah, I wish they wouldn't take cases that they don't have time for from the get-go, but... I know that the lawyer that I work for has a big heart, and is an amazing woman. She just get's caught up in her work, and, when bills are due, she focuses on the cases that pay. The tire-kickers that just need their probates or divorces finished tend to suffer though unless they are persistent.
