How many people living in the household?

Postby beacher » Fri Dec 23, 2011 2:42 pm

I have been asked: "How many people are living in the household (including yourself)?"

Here's my situation:

I am only 20 years old. I have a young sister. My parents are divorced, but they are living in the same household. My father has the custody of me, and my mother has my sister.

The house is my mother's. Since we are family, we are living there. Not renting, not temporary.

The question: "How many people are living in the household (including yourself)?" Is appearing in every form that I am filling out. Especially when doing the FAFSA (Financial Aid). So I would like to know, how many people are living in the household?

I use my father's tax income when it comes to those type of application, cause he is supporting me.

I do not know if I should put 4 or 2. Four as in mother, father, sister, and me. Or, two as in my father, and me.

In legal terms, what is it? Thanks!!

If the finances are separate, two. If they're shared, four. You probably are allowed to tack on an explanation if you want. Household has a different definition than home.
