How much does a lawyer take from a personal injury case?

I was hit by a van on my bike my case has settled for 25k my lawyer says it will be divided into thirds what does that leave me with? Is my attorney. And medical bills suppose to get more than me? Remember i went through the pain and suffering lost my job and home? Bascially is this correct or should i ask for more?

he gets $8,333x 3 = 25k
you get what is left after medical bills

This is generally happens in the case of injury that your amount of compensation are distributed in many levels than reached at you. But if you have strong network and a best lawyer who is honest with you so you can get more but not full amount.
