How much trouble can someone get for selling a iphone that was reported lost or stolen?

if you buy an item online and sell it soon after and the person says that the company reconizes as lost or stolen and you didn't know that at the time can you get in trouble with the law?

Its much easier to track down an iPhone than any other device with the GPS in it. Though if that phone is referring back to you as the owner then just ring your phone company to let them know you sold it and I'm pretty sure they would retract the messages. It happened to me when I lost my SIM card and ordered a new one. I used the new one and it kept telling me the iPhone was lost or stolen. I would get a text message saying that about 4 times a day.

It's illegal to sell stolen property.

Even if you are telling the truth you might face criminal charges and then you would have to hire a lawyer to fight for you. So even if you are found not-guilty you might lose a lot of time and money to fight the charges. Also you would be required to refund the money you charged for the stolen phone.

Just explain it and show your records of you buying it as there should be no problem. You should do checks in the future though.

A LOT the new iPhones have a gps now and they can trace you, if the gps navigation is on.
