I think in the United States everyone single person should have the rights, privileges and protections that every one else enjoys, including marriage. I don't think we have a right, in the United States, which is allegedly the freest country in the world, to exclude and discriminate against anyone. I think there is no non-religius reason to not allow gays to marry, and given the understood separation of church and state that the 1st amendment of the constitution provides, those religious reasons should never enter into any realm that the government has jurisdiction over. Even if there isn't a federal law passed, as soon as a "trigger point" number of states acknowledge gay marriage, or even before that, if it gets to the SCOTUS, a decision will be handed down that the right of same sex people to marry is the same civil right that allows interracial marriages.
