Hysterectomy Surgery X2 Open Wound, Pain

Postby Ferdinando » Fri Jun 06, 2014 2:51 pm

I had a vaginal hysterectomy oon 7/25. My doc removed uterus only vaginally. She stated my uterus had fused to my back , ovaries and colon.. She said she had to "peel" the uterus away from the other organs. I was discharged next day. Was back in er two days later with blinding headache, uncontrollable bowel and bladderand violent vomiting. I was given pain meds and sent home. 7 days later back in er with temp, nausea, vomiting and vaginal drainage. It was determined that I had vaginal cuff cellulitis. I was put on oral antibiotics and sent home. After antibiotics complete fever returned and back to ER. Put on IV antibiotics for 5 days the. Discharged home on oral antibiotics. Seven days later. Fever, drainage and nausea and vomiting. Back to ER. They opened me up foynd scar tissue, leasions, abcesses and fused organs ans ecoli in abdomen. Five days IV antibiotics then sent home. Three days later seroma in incision opened back to er for drainage. Following day incision openex up 9cm deep & tunnels both directions 6 cm. Now, packing wound, cant sit or stand pain

Hysterectomy Surgery X2 Open Wound, Pain

Wow, what an awful experience.  Here is the correct answer to your question.  First and foremost, you need to wait and see how well you eventually recover.  No matter how much you have gone through and even if the surgeon was negligent......perhaps in not doing an abdominal hysterectomy instead of vaginal...........there would not be a viable case. A lawyer taking this case would have to spend probably $10K of his/her own money right away on experts to support your negligence claim, and all of the other costs associated. The doctor would have experts on her side saying she used reasonable medical judgment and everything was done within the standard of care in a very very difficult case.  In a very difficult case no doctor has a legal duty to guarantee that everything will go as hoped for.  So, there would be a big fight taking months or years and a ton of money.  Unless you end up with permanent and severe injury causing substantial disability to you..........and I certainly hope this doesn't happen.......that case would not be worth it to any attorney who just works for a % of the outcome.  That outcome must be likely and very big.  Best of luck.
