I accidentally missed my date to mail in my traffic ticket pleading guilty or not guilty!?

Postby wendlesora » Mon Dec 19, 2011 12:06 pm

didn't realize I had to plead by November 7, its now November 12, I plan on going to the DMV tomorrow but I'm wondering what to expect? Is my license going to be suspended? If I plead guilty tomorrow and pay the fine will everything be okay? Is there still any chance that I could talk to a lawyer about getting the charges dropped? I got a ticket for going up a one way street. also wondering if that will add points to my license. I'm seventeen do my parents have to know? It said I have to write down their names if i'm under the age of 18. Will it make their insurance go up even more or barely at all?

I think that you answered your own question. Guilty! Do you really think that you can fight city hall?

No lawyer can help you on this one and drop the charges for you. A lawyer isn't going to drop charges just for you because you couldn't remember to plead on time. That is all your fault that you missed the date so there is nothing that can be done. That just shows irresponsibility on your part and nobody will have sympathy for you on this one. You're automatically guilty now since you passed the file/plead date. You'll still have to go to court and pay your fines and get your consequences on this. If this has anything to do with your insurance it will make it go up depending on how many points you receive on your license. Anytime you get a traffic violation it puts points on to your license.

I don't know how harsh the consequences will be for you but it probably wont be that light. You won't serve jail time or anything like that. But you just might get some warning. You shouldn't loose your license unless you were doing more than just going down a one way street.

Just go in, if you were wrong plead guilty, pay the fine put your parents names down, they only call your parents if you say you are innocent and/or refuse to pay. You can still talk to to your lawyer about getting the charges dropped however that will probably be more expensive than the cost of the ticket.

don't go to the dmv, go to the court. if you're a minor your parent(s) have to go with you, no need for a lawyer, he couldn't get it dismissed especially after you missed your initial plea date. your insurance will definitely go up a lot.
