To give you a more descriptive answer...
To be honest, having a solid work history and no criminal record is more important than any specific degree or job you currently hold. Granted, it's a plus to have a job in criminal justice and some college, especially a degree but if you think about that, what does that have to do with making proper decisions in the heat of a moment? What will a degree do when you're under stress, on route to a house where shots were fired?
Most agencies aren't looking AT your credentials. They're looking at how many you have and how consistent and responsible you have been with your time. I know people who have gotten hired over ex-military and people with a master's degree and all they have done is work low-level jobs all their life such as delivering pizza or stocking boxes at a warehouse. But when it came down to the background investigation, they had a clean criminal record and have had a consistent work record.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discourage you from applying if that is your goal. By all means, go for it. Bottom line, it's how you present yourself that will impress whomever you apply to. Good luck.
