I have just been offered a Job but . . .?

Postby curney13 » Sat Oct 29, 2011 3:56 am

I am so scared. I have dealt with Anxiety in the past and it makes it extra hard for me to cope. I had the interview today and they rang me a couple of hours later to offer me the job. I am 18 years old and this will be my first full time job. The job is at a Law Firm as an Office Junior/Receptionist. I am so scared for the first day. What if I screw up? What if I don't know what to do. I know this is a great opportunity at a great company and if I pass this up I might regret it. The hours are quite long too, 8am to 5:30pm. I have gotten used to being comfortable at home and I get anxious when I am out in a nerve wracking situation. I am thinking of giving the job a couple of weeks and seeing how it goes. Does anyone have any advice? It is also a large company of 70 lawyers so pretty corporate. Please no nasty comments. I really appreciate any advice you can give me! Thanks!!

Ok, so the worst thing that can happen is you lose the job or you quit in a few weeks. Anxiety is like a mind trick. It's being scared of something that isn't there. Of course you'll be nervous. Anyone would. But you go in there and do your best anyway. If you mess up, well everyone messes up sometimes. You are obviously Intelligent enough to get the job, which is saying something. I know what you mean about being comfortable at home, but you can't sit on your couch forever. The best things in life are often difficult, but it's worth it. And I am pretty confident that if you take the job and get settled in, you will find that the worst part was really just your anxiety. Try it. Show yourself what you're made of. Good luck!
