I Live In Fort Worth, Tx, A Energy Company Wants To Lease My Mineral Rights, Is There A Book I Could Read. I'm Lost?

I went to see a couple attorneys and also spoke on the phone to some other lawyers, since the mineral rights deal is for a lot of money, but, while all the attorneys said they were oil and gas attorneys, come to find out they were attorneys who had very little Oil and Gas law experience as they were either basically Landman / Landmen who just had experience leasing neighborhoods or they were attorneys who jumped into Oil Gas from torts or some thing due to the Oil Boom. My Oil and Gas Deal has issues concerning our family estate and also includes marital issues. Heck, this proably is not the right website for this, but, I can't even shop online with out worrying the energy company is going to hurt me in this deal, with their fast talking slick landman. I need to buy a book on oil and gas and then find a real OIL GAS ATTORNEY in Fort Worth.

I would start by calling some attorneys that are NOT in the field and asking them who the best would be. If you ask a real estate attorney who the best attorney specializing in gas and oil leases would be, that would be a good start(if the real estate attorneys suggest themselves, contact and ask other attorneys. I would start with Real Estate specializing in law suits, I would contact other Oil and Gas companies and ask who their attorneys are. I would do a search on the company who is offering you money, and seeing who has sued them and who the attorney was(every company gets sued now and again). The key is to find keep asking people who the best in the field is, and then hire him or her.  I believe you said that they were offering a significant amount of money, so don't try to go cheap. Also, hire the best accountant you can find.

You need to hire an attorney who has experience working for Oil and Gas Companies! My husband and his family own ranches and we sold our mineral rights to big oil and gas companies. The landman were nice enough, but honey they are not worried about you or your family just the bottom line. Me and my husband thought we could google our way into understanding that lease and we got lost.   My daughter found a guy who claimed to be real good in oil and gas, he was one of them attorneys that did a little bit of every thing and when the landman starting talking about drilling sites and operating this, that, he looked like a doe in head lights. I even talked to my nephew who is a landman for Chesapeake Energy about all the legal stuff and he told me to get an experienced Oil and Gas Attorney. He said, that the Barnett Shale made a lot of people become oil gas attorneys who were knowing in thereoy, but not every day real life. So, no book is going to protect you. Our attorney 's name was Christopher Harrell, he was really good and he actually did all the work, then explained every thing. I don't have his card with me, but, I will call my husband and get it for you. I know Christopher has an office in the Westside of Fort Worth and one in Keller. My husband said his website is HarrellAttorney.Com, but its one word. My husband said, that Christopher works for Oil and Gas Producers and also for mineral owners, so he can take care of you. Good luck, I think you will be happy with him.   Susan   Sources: HarrellAttorney.Com   Google Map View Larger Map Law Office of Christopher M. Good luck.  Good luck.    It's you against the Oil and Gas companies, who have hundreds of lawyers and 100+ years of dealing with the likes of you.   Depending on how much the lease is worth, I'd probably wave around 10% of that amount in front of some downtown lawyers.  That might be a way to maximize your position.   It may not matter so much that they're experienced in "oil and gas" if your major issues are estate and marital issues.   A good family law lawyer might be good enough.   BTW they're "attorneys at law".  Anybody can be an "attorney".
