employed".  If you start your own business, you'd have to answer this as a yes or commit fraud - regardless of whether is is an LLC.  I do not think being self employed disqualifies you from receiving unemployment, but you are required to report any income you receive and it will be deducted from your unemployment check.   Additionally, there is a question "Were you able to work full-time and available for full-time work" which you might not be able to answer with a truthful "Yes" if you're spending time running your own business.   The state you live in probably has a website you can access to get the specific information pertaining to laws in that state.

Another 13 weeks of unemployment extension was approved this week.  If you start your own business you might not be entitled to unemployment.  Ask at your state's Division of Labor web site.   Maybe if you go to the Union Hall and get temp work and make sure to report it on the weeks you earn.   Unemployment Offices are also helping people starting their own businesses.  Get trustworthy information. before you act.   Good luck.
