The amount of the grant is based on the number of people who are eligible. Don't confuse SSI with Wellfare. While Supplemental Security Income is a form of welfare it is only administered by the Social Security Administration. However, the funds used for SSI do not come from the Social Security paid by the deductions charged to the American workers. SSI FUNDS are derived from the General Funds Budget. It is available to certain children and adults who are physically and/or mentally unable to work because of their disability. When an individual applies for Disability Benefits but have not contributed through payroll deductions to the required number of quarters necessary to receive SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY they will instead receive SSI(from the General Fund). The guidelines to receive benefits varies from program to program. If you are inquiring about the check received for AFDC it will depend on the number of children eligible to receive who are living in the house. Aid for dependent children(AFDC) and food stamps are the most recognized forms of welfare and they are administered by each State?s Department of Human Services or it?s equivelent.
