I received an e-mail about an online DVD (Netflix) lawsuit. How do I tell if it's legitimate?

Part of the e-mail:

Records show that you paid a subscription fee to rent DVDs online from Netflix anytime from May 19, 2005 to September 2, 2011. We are emailing to tell you about a Settlement and lawsuit that may affect your legal rights. You may be eligible to receive a cash payment or gift card from the Settlement. Please read this email carefully. Go to www.OnlineDVDclass.com for more information.

There is a lawsuit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Walmart.com USA LLC (together called “Wal-Mart”) and Netflix, Inc. (“Netflix”) involving the price of online DVD rentals. The Class Action seeks money for current and former Netflix subscribers. A Settlement has been reached with Wal-Mart. Netflix and Wal-Mart believe that the lawsuit has no basis. Netflix has not settled the lawsuit and the litigation continues against it.

It is legit, it has been on the news.

However because of lawyer fees and the mass amount of individuals to whom this class action suit applies (every person who paid for netflix for at least 1 month over a 6 year period) and the relatively low amount of the settlement (around $28 Million I believe), individuals will collect a very low amount, think under $1.00.

These are typically legit. you probably rented from Netflix during that time fram according to their databases. According to law they have to notify any known interested persons, so they basically shoot off a mailing list. they should have a law firm on the notice that is handling the class action.

I have just saw about this on my local news. It is a 100% legit email. It's about Walmart thinking of starting their own little Netflix type thing, but it didn't go through. The a lawsuit came in somewhere. But it is true, you can get some money ($1.50) from Walmart.
