Since it was "verbal" it becomes a he said - she said issue, and there is no issue. If dental insurance was unwanted, it is the employee's responsibility to notify the HR department, in writing. There would be no way to recover the amount, since it's been paid to the insurance company, and yes, it is most certanly the employee's responsibility to check their paycheck stub every payment. I question, with the HR department, when my check is 25 cents different without a valid reason.
