I was being ignored so much I stopped trying to talk?

Postby panteno » Tue Jul 31, 2012 9:20 pm

I have a very large family (3 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 sister-in-laws, and 2 nieces). I'm also the youngest. My parents pay way more attention to all my siblings more than me that I'd get completely ignored if I tried to speak. Eventually I stopped trying to talk. I'm not a mute I just don't join family conversations. I this a bad thing? Should I try to speak up or myself or am I just wasting my time? Also, in order to be my own person I tend to draw on my body. My parents now have a habit of only noticing the drawings and not me. Please help! What should I do?

I have had the same trouble, and I know that it sucks. For me, the reason I get ignored is because everyone else is just so much louder and more flamboyant than I am, so they get the attention. Try to build up a stronger relationship with your individual family members instead of only hanging out as a group. Work on just one person at a time and work your way up to being close to everyone. Once everyone actually knows you better and hopefully likes you more too, they'll be more inclined to pay attention to you.

As for drawing on your body. I understand that it's a form of expressing yourself, and your parents probably know that too. However, if you're rather quiet and never speaking, your drawings are probably getting a lot more attention than you. As you work on building relationships with everyone, you'll have the chance to actually talk with them one-on-one. This will help your parents get to know you better, not just your drawings.

It'll take a lot of work, and there may be some awkward moments when you just have no idea what to say. Stick to it and it'll get better.

Yeah that's a bad thing! This happened to me but with my friends.. Now I don't have any friends since they ditched me for not being social. :'( Just go ahead and talk, say whatever i guess. Ugh.. Don't draw in your body because you get can get skin poisoned. Just mess with your siblings I guess, and from there you should talk. If you don't talk now than its possible you might not feel like talking to anyone else including your friends.

You are ignored that may be because you are too young, they think your thought is not mature enough.

But you should speak up or they won't remember you in the later days.

Good luck.

Just have friends over, go to their' house or go out and have a night for yourself!
**** ignorant parents who dont have much to do with their kids!
