No, because in order for a man to get life imprisonment for rape, then there had to be some seriously hard evidence and possibly even a previous record for some violence related crime.. if a woman just accuses a guy then it's he said she said and that doesn't hold up in court.. However, the woman will get punished if she makes false allegations that can be proven to be false.. Remember: evidence is the key to conviction.. Witnesses are barely even consider as reliable in court anymore..

Lol, now that everyone's attacking me for this comment, let me just state that this is from personal experience.. my ex girlfriend got charged with two accounts of stautory rape, and not only did they have a confession from her and a statement from both minors, she received 3 years probation do to insufficient evidence. And my sister was raped by a man twice her age, and because she didnt get checked out within the appropriate amount of time, he got off of all charges due to insufficent evidence as well even though she was violently raped.. Oh, and next time you decide to post articles proving your 'point', why don't you look for something a little more modern because the justice system has changed substantially since 1994... and as for murder charges without corpses... its called forensic science which has also improved drastically over the past decade..

And as for your friend who got thrown into jail for a year based on a "lie", chances are that the only "lie" that was told came from his mouth.

If there is enough evidence against her. There needs to be literally something suggesting that she made it up. It is very difficult to prove something like this. It is also very difficult to prove that a man even raped a women without a rape kit.

Even if everything goes as predicted, it can take a minimum of two years to close the case. It is just as difficult for a women to imprison a man for rape as it is for a man to suggest a women planted false allegations.

I suppose you can sue for slander? You will need to have some type of status in society for this. Slander charges only work if you have a status in the community.

It's exceedingly rare to get a life sentence for rape, I agree that false accusations are not treated seriously enough but if you had a son and a daughter, and the son was accused of rape but then was found to be innocent and your daughter was rapped and the rapist was found to be guilty do you honestly think that the crimes committed are equally heinous?

"if a woman just accuses a guy then it's he said she said and that doesn't hold up in court"

Tell that to my friend who got thrown in for a year on a lie.

@Liss Uh no, the girl later admitted to lying and he got out and put her $50,000 in the hole, but congrats on victim blaming and assuming the man is wrong.

No. They aren't comparable crimes. Not by a long shot. One is a traumatizing act of violence that can have resounding physical and psychological consequences (PTSD, fear of intimacy, not to mention physical injury), and the other is slander. Slander can harm someone's reputation, but no way is it as damaging as being sexually assaulted.

By the way, men are rarely imprisoned for life for rape. Most rapists get off scot free.

I don't think life sentences for rape are just, so I certainly don't think a life sentence for a MALICIOUS false rape accusation is warranted either.

With that said, yes, I do agree that when proved to have maliciously made a false rape accusation a woman should be subject to a substantive incarceration and punitive damages.

Edit: @Liss: Oh really?

"Yesterday a Colorado judge ordered the release of Robert Dewey, who had served 18 years of a life sentence for a 1994 rape and murder he did not commit. "

Liss, please STFU, you have no idea of what you are talking about. I know of a few murder cases where a there were convictions WITHOUT a corpse! Eye witnesses are still used extensively. Stop lying, you feminazi.

The only thing that might stop me from saying yes is that it might make it harder for rape victims to come out about it.
There should be a punishment, harsh enough to stop women from falsely accusing men as it is a huge issue these days, but not so harsh it scares people from telling the police if they really did get raped. I would say about three to six months of prison.
And whoever said most rapists get off Scott free... That is not true. At all.
