If Black Sabbath Is At Or Near The Top Of Your List Of The All Time Greatest Acts In The History Of Rock And Roll...

I was not that interested in music when I was young but when a friend played Black Sabbath for me I didn't know what I was missing. So  #1 Black Sabbath  #2 Led Zepplin  #3 The Doors  #4 Metallica  #5 Jimi Hendrix  #6 Bob Dylan  #7 Pink Floyd  #8 Rolling Stones  #9 Jethro Tull   Ok some of those are obvious and some are not. I put Zepplin at number 2 because of the solid awesomeness over many albums. Much like Sabbath they had darkly evocative lyrics and hammering melodies that inspired all modern metal musicians. The Doors and Jimi get mentioned for their embodiment of the Rock god image which brilliant flashes better than just about anyone else. Metallica(Black album and earlier) are the finest of my era and have pushed rock harder than anyone else, without getting trashy. Dylan may not rock as hard as others on the list but his contribution as a song writer as well as performer is huge. Jethro Tull is my wild card pick. All I can say is anyone who can make a flute sound badass needs to be recognized.

Blue Oyster Cult & ZZ Top I love BOC!  They had some of the most interesting lyrics and the guitar was simply outstanding. ZZ Top is another of the great power trios.  I particularly love their blues songs.   One of my all time favorites is "Jesus Left Chicago". rhaben 82 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. I listen to too many types of music and too many bands to be locked on "rock", but as far as rock goes....   In no particular order:   Black Sabbath(Ozzy or RJD)   Red Hot Chili Peppers(post Slovak)   Steely Dan(Pre-Gaucho)   Janes Addiction(all, or Perry solo)   Metallica(pre-1999 :"S & M" tripe)   The White Stripes(Any) Awesome Blues/Rock/Garage/Soul/) The best new band in 20 years....   Rush(2112/Moving Pictures/Farewell To Kings era)   AC/DC(Bon Scott era only)   Sublime(all) and that?s  not nearly enough..R.I.P.,  B.N.   ZZ Top (pre-1980/MTV)   Rage Against The Machine(A totally fearless, razor sharp, politically aware onslaught)
