If i have a handicap permit, can a state university in texas give me a parking ticket?

Postby hardin » Fri Apr 13, 2012 4:46 pm

I was parked in a handicap parking spot on campus and was ticketed because I did not have a university parking permit displayed. I was under the impression that I was able to park in any marked handicap spot. The campus traffic police said they retain the right to control all parking on campus. I can not find an exemption in state law for that, nor do they provide any law that allows them that right. Is this legal?

They sure can and they sure will. Campus property and you did not have the permit to park on campus property. Any university I know of have just about the same rules about this.

To park on a university campus, you have to have either a student or visitors parking pass. Just because you are handicapped does not mean you do not have to purchase your student parking decal. You are required to have both the decal and your handicap decal to park in one of those spaces. Usually they require you to fill out a handicap form as well. They are completely legit in what they did. Sorry!
