I wouldnt. this is NOT a police matter its a contract dispute..make the ex sue you for the stuff to be returned. My friend and his common law partner have split up, she left him with all the bills, he received an eviction notice and started selling his belongings. I purchased multiple items with receipts to prove. Now the ex has come back for these items and is furious he sold them. They have lived together for 8 years. The police arrived at my home and saw the receipts but are saying it is both of theirs property and not mine, even though I purchased it. Do I legally need to give the items back without a refund or can I really be charged for buying something?
