If I was sold a truck on lien sale by a company who did not remove the plates which had stolen tags on it and?

showing it was reg. till Sept of 2012 and I was verbally told it was currently registered and tagged as it appeared to be when they were selling the truck. When I arrived at the Office to purchase the truck the woman behind the counter started a big argument with me about trying to go behind there backs and send my friends in to try and get them to lower the price she called who I thought was the owner and started telling him this outrageous story I was totally shocked by all the accusations and in the crazy confusion I signed the paperwork s without reading the details which said it hadn't been registered since 2007. I failed to read the paperwork because I sidetracked but also because I believed what I was told by the salesman and by what I visually saw on the truck itself. I have been told that the truck should not have been sold by lien sale with those plates left on it they should have been turned into the DMV but since I did sign the paperwork will I stand a chance in small claims court of getting my money back? I have been told small claims court is my only recourse by the CHP office even though an Officer said he remembered the truck because he impounded it in Jan. of 2012 for the same thing w/the same tags and the company that sold it to me are the ones called to picked it up then? Instead of this Officers story verifying my claim about what happened to me proving this companies scandalous business conduct and clearly showing that they were fraudulently misrepresenting the information about the truck by not removing the plates and selling this way to me If I had been pulled over while driving or even inside the truck when it was on the roadside I could have been arrested on felony charges, and taken to jail. ! I am finding it hard to get any help or get the correct information I need to proceed with the paperwork required for small claims to file a case.Like who the owner of company is or if its a sole proprietorship or corporation? Everywhere I go I get different information about this company. I feel the CHP Officers are in collusion with this towing company because they won't provide me with anything I've asked for and have even led me to believe I'm in the wrong and told me that I've been mis-informed about the removal of license plates from the truck and I need to get my information straight They said I don't have the right to the reports I requested on the truck because I was not the "registered owner at the time" the reports were made? I need some answers about how to proceed with this can someone advise me of where to begin? Or if I even have a case against this company for it's business conduct to try and scam a consumer, since I did sign the papers?

The line that sticks out in your explanation is this - "I was totally shocked by all the accusations and in the crazy confusion I signed the paperwork s without reading the details which said it hadn't been registered since 2007."

Are you kidding me? Seriously? You seem fairly intelligent in based on your writing. Unbelieveable how you got yourself into this.

I would say to start with small claims court if the amount you are seeking is under the statutory max for your state. CHP could be in collusion with the towing company, but the hard part will be proving it.

I normally try to have people avoid lawyers if possible, but this seems like a prime situation to seek legal advise. You have to decide if the cost of hiring a lawyer is worth the money you are out and the trouble.
