If you saw someone beating up another person, would you stop the attacker?

What would you do if you saw someone being attacked or beaten up by another person? Would you step in and try to stop them from being hurt? Would you call the police and then wait for help to arrive? Would it make a difference if the person being attacked or beaten up was a family member versus a stranger?

Hi Beautyqueen26, on more than one occasion I've called the police...I live in a crime ridden area and every other day something goes down wether it be boyfriend and girlfriend or just people...they just stay angry at the world. It's been a little over a year since I bought my home and so far there have been two shootings and many, many fist fights, UGH! It seems I'm always calling the police! ~G~

You're being a good neighbor and that's what is important. When I first moved into my home, we lived in a really nice area. But, after about a year some bad elements moved into the nearby neighborhood and would come over to our area and start trouble, playing loud music and such. We kept calling the police and eventually the police put our neighborhood on their regular route and now we have no disturbances here. Criminals (or would be trouble makers) don't want to hang out in a place where the cops are. You're doing a good job! Keep it up and soon you'll notice a decrease in crime.

If I witness a fight, I would first try to verbally get them to stop, if they didn't I would probably try to hold them down physically and call the police.

I saw an episode with America's Most Wanted that said to not intervene by getting involved phyically but to stand apart from the attacker and the attackee and scream "Stop it! Go away! Leave her alone!" over and over again and while you're doing this, try to get others to join in with you in your tirade because the bigger the crowd the less likely the attacker would come after you because there's too many of YOU for him to handle and he'll run off. Even if he has a gun, he most likely won't use it because there will be too many witnesses. While screaming, I'd have my cell phone in my hand dialing 911! And yes I'd wait until the police arrived because, what if I were in the victim's shoes and was being attacked? I'd hope someone would come to my aid!

never jump in a fight between two other people, they could both end up attacking you and no way can you take two people. i tend to just scream and call the police the police get paid to deal with that drama, NOT me.

personally here in the uk knife crime is on the rise, I am no vigilante and want to be alive for my kids. I would call the police first, and monitor the fight if it was clearly one sided and the guy was in real danger only then would I drag the other person off till the police arrive. If its just hand-bags at ten paces then I would let the police sort it out, as unfortunatly in this day and age you never know what they are carrying. Which is a sorry state of the world, when you have to watch out for your own safety.
