Is Car legal cover worth it?

Postby yago » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:31 pm

I wonder if anyone has got personal or proxy experience with this. Car insurers sell this £30/annum legal cover which is supposed to "cover legal costs to pursue claims for uninsured losses and/or personal injury sustained as a result of a non-fault accident". With the preponderance of no win no fee personal injury solicitors these days, is legal cover worth the cost.

Very much worth it for recovering uninsured losses off someone who hits you. I used it a few years ago to fight another driver's insurance company who were claiming them mechanical damage my car suffered as a result of being hit while parked wasn't a result of the crash. (Damage to brake cylinders and automatic gearbox park mechanism both broke due to the sudden impact)

I won the case.

NEVER, EVER get car insurance WITHOUT the 'legal cover'. At worst, you're paying £20 - £30 per year for the service, whereas any 'no win, no fee' outfit will take much more of any settlement.
The fee also covers your insurer having to 'chase' a third party or other insurer to recover costs for you. If you don't have the cover, your insurer may not recover all losses suffered by you in the event of an accident.
