Is dumping your household trash in your workplace's dumpter illegal?

My boyfriend told me awhile back that his dad will take their trash from home (like bags of trash) and he throws them in the dumpter at his job. I don't even understand why he does this as the trash collectors come to their neighborhood to collect trash twice a week! I told my boyfriend that what his dad was doing is illegal and it's called "dumping" and you can get arrested/fined for doing it. My boyfriend, who has a degree in criminal justice, thinks he knows EVERYTHING about the law and told me I was wrong and that it is not illegal. So, is this illegal or not?

not if you have permission from the company.

It IS illegal to use someone elses dumpster without permission.

I would not think so.

I dump my garbage into other peoples garbage cans all the time.

It is technically illegal to do without permission, but it's probably unlikely that law enforcement would get involved. He might get in trouble at work if he gets caught, though.

Of course it is, the company has to pay for that trash dump

Only if you get caught. I have seen people do it plenty of times until the company started raising hell about it. I used to take mine to the car wash and throw it out there. Use your imagination.
