Napolitano rips GOP immigrant trespassing bill

The former governor of Arizona took a shot Thursday at ongoing efforts by Republican legislators to enact state laws to make being in this country illegally a violation of state trespassing laws.

House OKs illegal immigration measure

“I thought I was right when I vetoed it the first time, I thought I was right the second time, I thought I was right the third time,’’ Janet Napolitano told her audience at Arizona State University.

Napolitano, who quit as governor more than a year ago to become homeland security secretary in the Obama administration, said the problem with the bill goes beyond strictly the “trespass’’ provision. In the past -- as in the current version awaiting House action -- it also includes language which would require police to check the immigration status of everyone with whom they come into official contact.

“What those laws do is they take away the ability of law enforcement in different communities to set their own priorities,’’ Napolitano said. “They create a cookie-cutter approach to law enforcement that really doesn’t match the fact that the law enforcement situation in, say, Nogales, is very different than here, which is very different than that, say, of Show Low.’’

The legislation is backed by Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, and Rep. David Gowan, R-Sierra Vista. They say they want to end what they call “sanctuary policies’’ in some communities where police are told they should not try to routinely determine if people are illegal immigrants.

Is "get off my property" the same as "get outta my country"?

By current law even by current Federal law no it is not the same. Coming into the country without inspection is an infraction of a Federal law and it is handled civilly. It is not considered criminal. It only becomes a felony if they are deported and then come back again. So I guess the answer could be Yes the second time it is the same because it becomes a criminal act.

It looks as if people are trying to change the law to make it a more serious violation. Fences and walls won't work. Attacking the issue from the inside will by fining companies that hire undocumented workers you will reduce the incentive to come in without documents. To assist in this we need a real federal ID that can be entered in a shared database with ICE, SSA, IRS and Police agencies. Eye scans, fingerprints and photos should be included.

So the answer is no and then yes. Although people say perception is reality so many people that don't know the law or people that are just MAD would say yes it is the same get them out.

Goddess I suggest posting in the politics section you get a lot more responses. This section removes everything that is not pro illegal alien propaganda.

Its going to be very hard for you to get anything posted here. Even if you do they have decided to pull it out if it gets enough attention.

The immigration section is totally dead.

Napolitano is a big fool I ignore everything she says now. Here and pelosi are 2 peas in a pod.

It is pitiful that she doesn't understand what the American People want, and cannot overcome her ego. She simply does not know what she is doing, but she could hurt us all before she crashes for good.

If you own all property within the United States, which means other private land owners would be subject to your direction regarding land, then yes, "get off my property" would be the same as "get out of my country."

I think it is very unwise to consider anything the Obama administration says regarding illegal immigration to represent coherent thought. This is especially true of anything Napolitano says, as she has a record of saying foolish things and projecting ideas that are unique at best.

Also remember that the media portrays things in a way to increase readership or viewership, and this effect can help and hurt both sides of the issue. Therefore simply citing articles from media is not always good since media can be really stupid sometimes.
