Is it hard to get into the San Francisco PD?

Postby sebastiano » Fri Dec 16, 2011 2:53 pm

I Have Recently Been Considering Beginning My Life On My Own in The City By The Bay and Pursuing My Dream Career of Entering Law Enforcement, With The San Francisco Police Department.
I am Familiar With Some Of My Original Places of My Intending (Los Angeles, San Diego)
However I Have Looked Even into The NYPD and Who Seems to Make it Nearly Impossible to Become a Member of The Force, I Was Wondering If The San Francisco Police Department is Somewhat (Of Course Not a "Breeze" However a Just a Little Bit) Easy To Be Able to Get Into The Academy and Get Hired, as Well What is It Like Being a San Francisco Police Officer and What are The Pros and Cons of Working/Living/Raising a Family in The City By The Bay

Please Help Me With The Most Detailed Information It is VERY much Appreciated Thank You

Is it hard to get into the San Francisco PD?

Are you bi-lingual? San Francisco is a beautiful (and VERY political) city. If you already KNOW someone on the department, you are a step further ahead than if you are starting from scratch. Otherwise, they have recently had SO MANY apply and pass their initial testing that no further application workshops are being scheduled. Here is the quote from their website from 8.2.11:

Due to the large number of candidates who already have successfully completed the testing process, no future test dates are planned at this time. Please check the website periodically for updates concerning the entry-level, police officer testing program. * 1st website link

The DO accept lateral entries, so if you get on with another department and pass all backgrounds and get hired, put in a year or so, then you can apply as a transfer lateral and probably get right in...

Good Luck! It is a great profession!
