Is it legal for employers to.........?

Postby cumhea » Thu Apr 07, 2011 7:10 am

charge employees for their paycheck stubs? i work for a temporary agency, and they pay with a card, kinda like a debit card. so the employee nevers sees the "pay stub". the employers charge a $5.00 fee to print off a stub that shows how many hours you are being paid for, taxes being taken out, etc etc. is this legal?

i'm in north carolina.
nothing is mentioned in the nc labor laws website concerning this.

please understand, this fee is only charged if the employee requests a stub. who in their right mind wouldn't want to see the stub. but shouldn't that be my right to have?

I would ask someone at the labor board for your state, an email would probably get you your answer.

It doesn't seem right, I think they have to supply you a pay stub or a way to view the information somehow.

Contact the Department of Labor listed in your phone book for confirmation but I don't think so. They have to either give you a stub or make it available online.

Likely you signed paperwork when you authorized them to look for work for you that outlined this fee and should have been aware of it. Look over the paperwork and see.

Your employer has to provide that to you ... I did find the answer on the web site for North Carolina labor laws. See the link below. Print it out and take that to your employer.
