Is The United States Still The Indispensable Nation?

Is The United States Still The Indispensable Nation?

Bashar al-Assad, the leader of Syria, has been quoted as saying that, "There is no substitute for the United States." He hopes that President Obama will send an ambassador, which we haven't had there since President Bush withdrew our ambassador in 2005. What do you feel his statement indicates? As an American, how does this statement make you really feel? I'd also like to hear from any of you out there who are not from the United States, on this situation.

Further, I believe the current collapse of the world economy was an untended consequence of those actions. In short, Oil producing nations who reigned back production, in concert with other large consumers like China who were over purchasing as a part of the effort put the squeeze on America and the result was that she popped like an over ripe zit resulting in a rather large ripple effect throughout the world economy. 59 months ago

Chuckmeister said: 3 If the enduring part of American policy can return and hold: that we are trying to support democracy, free societies and markets, and national self-determination with respect for minority rights, then he may have it right. If we keep hedging these things for commercial interests, then we are back to the recent bad old days... 59 months ago

A lot of the world depends on us to give them money, buy their goods, and defend them against military aggression. They also depend on our medical advances to heal their sick.
