2.6 % of the recipents failed. And the ones that passed had to be paid back for the cost of the test. The numbers, confirming previous estimates, show that taxpayers spent $118,140 to reimburse people for drug test costs, at an average of $35 per screening. The state's net loss? $45,780."That's not counting attorneys and court fees and the thousands of hours of staff time it took to implement this policy," Newton said.Opinions? citation in first reply.

They may figure out they don't need this test. I think lots of money is wasted in government.   Shasha 20 months ago

Well, of course. The fact that it's a waste of taxpayer money should not deter anyone from humiliating the poor. They're so...common!   @Goldie 20 months ago

Not everyone who uses drugs becomes addicted the first time that use them. A strong disincentive can get those who still are able to stop to stop.   Snow_Leopard 20 months ago

I agree....too much government. They also have tests in schools that waste money. All they so is teach to the test to look like the kids are smarter. Many things they thought would help/work don't work and they need to stop them. It is all politics...put on a good show saying you are trying your best to make something better.   Shasha 20 months ago

Did the study take into account how many people may have stopped using drugs because of this policy? Also, there is now hard data on drug usage, something useful to policy makers and social scientists. Hardly a loss!   Snow_Leopard 20 months ago
