Just wondering about PA requirements on labor laws?

Postby gall » Wed Nov 30, 2011 3:24 am

Hey I'm in my 20's and live in the state of PA. I recently got a job at a retail department store as a seasonal part time employee. I received my schedule for this last week and I was schedules for 43 hours and as for my understand I was only suppose to be scheduled for a maximum of 31 hours. I looked over my schedule and saw that on black friday I was scheduled to work from 12:00 AM to 8:00AM with a 30 min lunch and I had to return back to the store at 4:00 PM to 12:00AM with a 30 min break. I had to wait to speak with my manager about the black friday hours. I told him that I looked over the schedule and several other people were only scheduled for 12 hours that day and I didn't think it was fair that I had to work two 8 hour shifts. He basically said those are my hours and if I don't like it I could find another job. l quit yesterday because of what he said because I didn't think it was fair to have to work two 8 hours shifts. My question is, is this legal for them to do this to me?

Yes they can. And you refused and quit which is also legal. Fair has nothing to do with it. They can schedule as they see fit.
