I received my second speeding ticket after getting a 'Probation Before Judgement" (no points, reduced fine) on a speeding ticket one month ago.
I was going to pay the fine and take the two points by mail on the new ticket, because I was worried that if I go to court, they will re-open the PBJ case and give me the points from the old ticket on top of the new ticket. However, I contacted a lawyer and he told me that in Maryland, speeding PBJ doesn't mean that they will give you the original penalty if you get another ticket while under probation, it just means that they it will be very difficult to get another PBJ on the new ticket.
He suggested I go to court instead of paying the fine by mail because the cop may not show, or the penalty may be reduced. He said WORST case scenario, I'd have to pay the fine, take the 2 points, and pay court fees, but my PBJ ticket from one month ago wouldn't come back to penalize me.
Can anybody confirm this?
