ANSWER: Alan,

A. S. Allen, was probably an owner at some time.

Mosler, Bahmann & Company(1867-1898), Manufacturer, Cincinnati, OH

Warner, Stockbridge were sales agents in Rochester NY

Based on your serial number the safe would have been manufactured in 1888.  I have a friend with a Mosler, Bahmann Ledger of serial numbers manufactured between 1887-1892(serial numbers 10640-19490)

Patent dates are issued for up to 20 year periods and may have been used beyond this if there were no changes.  The only reference a patent date gives you, is that you know it couldn't have been made PRIOR to this date.

What other info are you looking for?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

any clue to how much this safe weight is 24x25x36 with wheels or can you tell by the legder and who a.s.allen might have been thank you so much   and the last set of numbers on the dial are all alone after paten ex date

could that be a build date ? thank you so very much alan  also it shows ware but works good antb value in such a safe

Mosler, Bahmann Safe

Alan,

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the ledger, and it is done in a poor cursive handwriting in a book over 100 years old.  The photo that I have gives me basic info, but no one has taken the time to try to transcribe the document yet.

Safe manufacturers NEVER put manufacturing dates on safes, while some safes had serial number, some don't.  Patent dates have nothing to do with the manufacturing process other than indicate the date the patent "idea" was accepted.

You will have to try to back track A.S. ALLEN down to figure out who he was, sorry.
