Moving to colombia in 2013?

My wife is both colombian and american citizen. I am american citizen. We r moving to colomia in 2013. What r the laws concerning bringing personal property and vehicles.

I have a car 2005, 90,000 miles.
A toyota truck 2007, 90,000 miles
A honda motorcycle for both dirt and street 2008, 1,000 miles
A honda quad ( four wheeler) dirt only 2008, 100 miles

You will want to check with the Colombian Embassy before you ship your motorcycle or quad but there is a ban on importing used cars and trucks into the country.

You cannot import ANY used vehicles into Colombia. They can only be new and if you do, the arrancel (Import taxes) are sky high. The only way to get around this is if you are a diplomat. They are exempt from such taxes..

You might also find someone in Colombia who has that exemption and who will sell it to you. Usually they average around 16,000 but you will find that cars cost about 2X what they do in the USA.

4 Wheelers are for Fincas only. You cant ride anywhere near any city. And, unless it is YOUR property it's not safe.

Motorcycles about, mostly Honda Dreams (as in bad dream) Very few dual purpose. If you ride a bike you have to wear a chaleco (jacket) with a number on it. You have to wear a helmet and if you have a passenger they have to do the same.

I would suggest you sell them all and buy something out of El Tiempo Classifieds.
