Multiple U.S. Sponsorship Question?

Postby crom » Sat Jul 07, 2012 7:01 am

I am a US citizen but my biological mother lives in the Dominican Republic. I came here thru my biological father who sponsored me when I was younger. I've lived with him and my step-mom (who is Illegal) since I was 6 yrs old (i'm 23 now). An Immigration Expert said that with the new immigration laws I can sponsor her and she can get her residency yada yada yada, i don't care about that. My only main concern and question is, If I sponsor my step-mom does that jeopardize my biological mother's chances of coming over?, because I ultimately want to bring her too. Can I sponsor as many people as I want or is there a limit? and if I sponsor my step-mom andget her residency can I also sponsor my biological mother too and bring her over?

Multiple U.S. Sponsorship Question?

The more people you sponsor the higher income you'll need. One sponsorship does not end where another begins. They are cumulative. If you are a US citizen you can sponsor your biological mother at this time if your income exceeds $18,912 per year.

Multiple U.S. Sponsorship Question?

You can petition for both if you want. You can petition for parents, siblings, and spouses. The limit on spouses is one at a time. The petition form is here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=c67c7f9ded54d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Multiple U.S. Sponsorship Question?

Postby rolfe16 » Sat Jul 07, 2012 7:28 am

No.

You can not petition for a step parent, only a biological or adoptive parent.

Your father should have "sponsored" your step mother years and years ago.

And FYI: There is no such thing as an "immigration expert".

Even the best and brightest "expert" attorney gets tripped up because the field of law is too large for any one person to know it all like the back of their hand.

The majority of attorney's focus on family, employment or EOIR and only dabble in the other two. That's not to say they're not good at the other two, but the field is too large for them to be an "expert" in all 3.
