Postby albany90 » Wed Jan 01, 2014 5:32 am

We're replacing our cellar and we there is a rug that exclusive seller place inside the asbestos tiles. We'd them tested and they're asbestos. Special tile in the 60's etc. Tile appears to be complete with the exception of a location exactly where a classic club was removed.contractors have various views exactly where it was drawn up and broke: 1 claims he'll draw it all up before obtaining new carpet along. An additional claims to just abandon the hardwood and location assistance / rug more than it and so on.I turn to you for guidance. You could assist me decide. Thanks

Should I Get Rid Of The Asbestos Tile Flooring In Basement Or Just Leave It And Carpet Over It

I think the official statement is that asbestos tile in good condition is better left undisturbed than removed, as far as asbestos abatement is concerned. I'd have a little bit of concern about contractor #1, unless he is charging a significantly higher price than #2: once you disturb asbestos, you have to go through certain procedures to dispose of it in an approved manner. he may be planning to not do this.

It was asbestos. We had two options: pay for a(very) expensive hazmat team to come in and remove it, or entomb the stuff under plywood paneling and then lay new linoleum over that. Guess which we chose! But to "leave it as is" or even put carpet over it, leaves the asbestos able to leach particles off the tile that can then waft into the air and be inhaled, where they commence damaging the lungs. The above really are your only two legal options.

Asbestos......... Basically comes in three types; Brown Blue White I would guess your floor tiles are white/ chrystolite. Most of these tiles were made with this kind of asbestos.   Canadian opinion is that this is quite harmless but the EU reckons they are all harmless.   Me.I'd lay my carpet and forget about it. Should I Get Rid Of The Asbestos Tile Flooring In Basement Or Just Leave It And Carpet Over It

When we obtained the almost-money-pit next door, one of the traps laid for us was the kitchen tile.
