MUST READ PREGNANCY STORY!! IS THIS A LAWSUIT?

Postby luther » Sat Jun 16, 2012 7:46 am

So I have a big sister that is 26. She gave birth to her first child. So a while back she was having little pains and they told her to take OTC pain relivers. In the last 6 months she has had 4 epidurals and 2 of them were about a month or so apart. Yesterday she took another epidural and the baby's heart rate plummeted and an emergency C-Section was required. The anesthesiologist put her to sleep so the emegency csection could be done because the baby's heart rate was steady plummeting. My whole family was put out of the room and my sister was put to sleep so nobody knows what they put us out for. The head nurse told my mom that they were put out because they didnt need the extra family drama in the room. The same nurse told my sister when she was awakened that the family was put out during the csection because the baby's heart rate was dropping. Why did they lie to us? Was it because of too many epidurals and wrong medicine that the baby's heart rate was dropping and they required everyone to get out so they could have said the baby was already dead when he was taken out?? No one could have proved it because we were put out of the room. I think this is medical malpractice because they gave too many epidurals and they gave one too close and required an emergency csection. My sisters back is still hurting and BLEEDING from the epidural.

They always kick all non-medical personnel out, including the daddy, when they have to knock the mom out. It is policy for all hospitals. If mom is knocked out, there is an emergency and the doctor shouldn't be distracted by a distraught family member.
There isn't a problem with the epidurals. They were just giving her more medicine. It is like taking another when your headache comes back. Epidurals are in the spinal fluid, not the blood.

It could definitely a lawsuit if the baby is not ok and your sister either i feel bad nobody can give someone that many epidurals before the baby is born why give pain relivers to a pregnant woman definitely a lawsuit

MUST READ PREGNANCY STORY!! IS THIS A LAWSUIT?

Whenever they put a woman under general anesthesia for a c-section, there can be nobody, not even the child's father, in the operating room when they do the procedure becuase, having that many people in the room can contaminate it. On top of that when you have a c-section, there are like 15 medical personal in the room with you and they can't have random family members taking up their space. They have to move quick to get the baby out. I had a c-section with my son and I was not put under, but they did warn me that if my epidural didn't work right, my husband would have to leave the room so they could operate. Even though my husband got to stay becuase, my epidural numbed my bottom half right, I was told prior to the surgery that only one person could be in the operating room with me, my husband. So, the hospital did have a right to put your family out of the room. They did not do it so they could lie. I have never heard of a hospital giving a woman 4 epidurals in a 6 month period. I think you are confused. They only give a woman an epidural during labor, and labor does NOT last 6 months. I think you were referring to something else.

Nobody is allowed in the operating room when a c section is being done - this is a surgical procedure and no-one is ever allowed in there . You can't have the whole family milling around when an operation is taking place. Nobody was lying - the family HAD to leave and that is all there is to it. There was an emergency taking place, and there is no place for family members in that situation.

A person has an epidural during the birth of their baby - not at random times over a 6 month period throughout the pregnancy. I think you need to get your facts right with this. You are upset of course, but there is not any point talking about suing the doctors when you don't know what actually happened.

If your sister feels that she wants to question what happened, it is up to her and her partner to find out, by asking the doctor. Do try to calm down about this, and be supportive to your sister. She has plenty of time to ask questions and find out what happened. She doesn't need you to be talking about lawsuits when she has just lost a baby.

OK your sister had a Emergency C section my dear where they cut her stomach. Were you all in scrubs and do you think you would have like to see that being done to your sister no doctor operates in front of the family.
Now that is why they put you out. Now as for the epidural and she is in pain and bleeding I would contact a lawyer. They can find out

Think what you want but this isn't a malpractice case. Anytime a person goes under general anesthesia the only people allowed in are medical personnel. The epidural is localized to the spine, it won't ever affect the fetus ever. If the fetal heart rate dropped its not because of this.
