My college psychiatrist office refused to refill my prescription?

Postby taryn31 » Thu Apr 05, 2012 12:16 pm

I am on a small dose of cymbalta that is for depression and anxiety. It also helps me with my Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Anyways, the doctor I saw all last semester regularly changed his times for this semester he is in the office to see patients to once a week for a brief 2 hour period. I have had tests, advising meetings, research etc...that all take place during his time. Anyways, he keeps me on a 1 month supply of cymbalta and refuses to give me more than that. Every week something always needed me during those two hours and I started running low on pills. I notified the office and the lady in charge of refills refused to give me a refill until I scheduled an appointment with him. Now I'm missing an important meeting with my professor just to say "Hi how are you to the guy." Its been 3 days since I scheduled the appointment and I ran out of pills last night. I sent a stern e-mail saying that I scheduled an appointment but I still have not received any refill authorization and to please expedite the process so I can avoid withdrawal symptoms. She then wrote back and claims that I was supposed to notify her when I made an appointment (she didn't say that) Besides I make the appointment through the same office. She also said that she will be notifying the doctor of my communications.

I honestly I am just pissed off. Its a small 30 mg capsule and even after I warned the office of the low dosage, they refused. If I didn't make the appointment, would they just leave me dry to go through withdrawal? I feel this was very unprofessional especially for a medical office. I am not embarrassed of the least about my stern e-mail. I obviously got them scared because I was in a way accusing them of malpractice.

You should not see any withdrawl from cymbalta. Maybe a minor headache or a hard time sleeping at the very most. Its not an addictive drug. You should be fine.
