My wifes boss is stating that i abuse my wife when i don't can i take legal action against it ?

I just found out about this matter and had to rephrase my question i apologize. My wifes boss is telling everyone in the workplace that I abuse her because of what a physic told her boss which is completely false. The issue is can this be defined as defamation? can I take legal action against this? if i do take action against this and her boss cuts her hours could she take action against her workplace for discrimination?

If I got this right: The boss of your wife is telling the people that work at your wife's place of business that you abuse your wife. But you do not abuse your wife and this person is saying this solely because a psychic told them the abuse was occurring? And this psychic has not first hand knowledge of the alleged abuse that could be presented in a court of law?

I think this would fall under defamation. However, if it is not affecting your relationship with your wife, her relationship with coworkers, or your relationship with coworkers it might be best just to let it go.
