I am applying to Rutgers NB.
I live in NJ but live about 2 hours away from campus with no traffic. I currently have friends who live about 30 min from NB campus and say that the traffic is hell and sometimes causes them to be late for classes or events.
This reason has lead to think that even though I could commute that I should look for on campus housing.
Other factors:
My car is 12 years old and can't be replaced.
I am a transfer student from a NJ community college so should have only 2 years to attend at Rutgers, which would keep cost down.
But also, I am 24 and may be annoyed and not want to hang around kids fresh out of high school. I doubt other than going to the bar occasionally if I meet people, that I wont do much partying; if at all.
I am a joiner and plan to join as many things as possible which at my community college kept me at school at all hours of the night, which I would expect to happen here by joining clubs and other things.
Even though I would mostly stay there during the week, weekends if there was nothing going on, I would likely come home because I also every other weekend take care of my grandmother.
After spending years at my community college, not being sure of what it is I'd really like to do, I have decided that I really want to do law; vital to even getting accepted into law school is great academic performance, I think that if I didn't have to worry about driving home and wasting all that time to and from- it would help.
Counter-
I do like to drive, and would wake up early and drive home late if needed. If my car breaks, that isn't the end, i could get it repaired. I would save money by commuting unless gas gets ridiculous, get about 30 mpg.
I submit my question to your experience and wisdom. Thank you.
