Are copyright laws contrary to free market principles?

I'm not talking about credit.
People deserve credit for their work and you shouldn't be able to slap your name on someone else's novel.
I want to know if you think the right to copy, use and distribute intellectual property should be protected by the state, even though the original item can't actually be "stolen" from the creator. In the age of the Internet, isn't this just state protectionism of ideas, or at the very ...

Should I amend my taxes, or file for Injured Spouse Allocation?

I filed taxes for my husband and I as joint filing together, as I normally do. However, my husband did not have any income last year. I received much less money on my return than I was supposed to. Apparently it was because the government took out the back-child support that my husband owes from his previous marriage.

He claims that he filed an appeal to have his child support reduced last year, since he ...

Does this constitute an offense punishable by law?

In my country, Internet modems are sold by Airtel, MTN, Tigo, Vodafone, Expresso, etc. I can decode any of these modems to make it universal. For example, a modem by Airtel once decoded can access the Internet from any of the other ISPs. So, instead of people buying just Airtel and browsing through Airtel one's modem can be easily switched. The user will however recharge with the ISP he intends to use. I hope I ...

Is school work covered by intellectual property law?

There are plenty of examples of intellectual products that are covered by Intellectual Property laws (which vary from country to country, and perhaps even between states). Examples of those can be: music compositions, software, writing, etc. This might also lead to tangent subject such as patentability, but that's beside the subject of this question.

On the other hand, I'm under the impression that in academia the researchers don't have exclusive rights over their work. Instead ...

Land inhertiance question?

My father's parents had 50+ acres of land in alabama when they died the land was divided between the children. MY father inherited 4 acres of the land when he married he gave his wife half of the land and they were identified as joint tenants in common but they did a warranty deed back to each other thus abolishing joint right of survivorship in the land deed. Also after the life estate of my ...

Will my Associate's Degrees in Accounting and Paralegal Studies be helpful?

Would you say an Associate's Degree both in Accounting and Paralegal Studies would benefit towards a career in Project Management (PMP certification)? I plan to hopefully use PMP in compliance department or support withing a company.

I attended a university on scholarship, then left and found myself in the workforce. After a 3-year hiatus, I returned to community college. I eventually moved out of state and enrolled in a different college last year. I am ...

Without the global security provided generously by the USA, would there be constant world wars and terrorists?

Think about this realistically based on logic and objective beliefs.

The world needs us to perpetuate individual property rights and the free market enterprise that has proven itself to be the only viable model for progress. Keynesiasm(sp?) is inefficient, leads to war, and reduces the quality of life of millions of people. Supply side is the wave of the future!

Terrorists need to be subdued by the sword and be brought democracy by the market ...

Why do authoritarian regimes discourage economic freedom and investment?

Makes absolutely no sense to me? Why? Believe it or not, even China & UAE have heavy regulations and restrictions.

Here is a quote on China for investment

"China’s Foreign Investment Catalogue delineates sectors in which foreign investment is encouraged, permitted, restricted, and prohibited, as well as such specific restrictions as caps on foreign ownership and permissible types of investment. Investors face regulatory non-transparency, complex and inconsistently enforced laws and regulations, weak protection of intellectual ...
