Nyc law about over stayed guest?

Postby wardell » Thu Jul 12, 2012 1:01 am

I'm with my mil law right while me and my husband are transitining to a new apartment. I would have been gone last week but my car is in the shop and the new apt is in GA.

Last week she said stay as long as you need to until the car gets out the shop. Then on Monday she wants us out and tellingpeople lies that we was suppose to stay a weekend and not a month. Well she knew it was going to be at least a month and we paid rent that she needed so she wouldn't be evicted. And food so her and my lil sister wouldn't tarve case she spent all the money and even paid some bills.

Her sister talked me and was like just rush the car company to get ur ca out so she won't call the police . But I hink that's wrong especially since I dished out almost 1000 dollars of the stuff she need

My husbandname is on the lease as a tenant
In nyc what is thelaw about guest staying too long in your home can you kick them out in fl where I am from the laws staes tat you can not if the haveno means. Especially I you invited them into your place and did your part
Bu in nyc what's the law? is it similar? all I really need is like 4 more days I get the car Monday.

If your husband is also on the lease as a tenant, then he has as much control over whether you can stay or not as your mother in law. Therefore, unless there is some clause in the lease about not allowing guests to stay there, she cannot have you thrown out if your husband wants you to stay.
