Doctors get sued for malpractice ALL the time. It is usually the insurance company that settles, to avoid the costs of a civil trial, which they can never recoup even if the doctor is found blameless. You cannot infer guilt or incompetence from the existence of a settlement.
Ob-gyns are sued more often than other group, which is why fewer and fewer gynecologists are delivering babies anymore. They can't afford the malpractice insurance anymore. One day obstetricians will be extremely hard to find, and everyone will have to use midwives. Then the lawyers will go after the midwives.
If you want to know about the malpractice suit, you're going to have to ask. A settlement usually includes a non-disclosure agreement.
Or you can just go with your instincts. C-sections are one of the simplest surgeries to perform. If you think he's competent, trust him.
