OWS messages and the unwillingness to debate honestly about them?

Postby marq » Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:22 am

It is sad people in many of these kinds of comment sections simply parrot media mouth pieces by stereotyping and debating strawmen. If one would objectively step back for a moment they would see a few interesting aspects to these protests. The first is the idea of movement of movements. This started in the 90s where many movements saying many things came together as opposed to being seperate. Many media people mistake this many message approach as having no message at all. Second is the notion of equity and sustainability. I suppose I understand some ego driven resentment at proposed student loan forgiveness, but I do not grasp how one concludes that the current import/export, trade laws, WTO agreements, and % of consumer purchase necessary to promote continued supply side service jobs in the US is sustainable. I seriously doubt any of the hecklers on here is willing to give a stab at it but be my guest.

Instead of honest debate, we revert to "spin". In more honest times it was called propaganda.

Take for example this week's Republican Governors Association meeting in Florida. They were being schooled on how to discuss the movement.

Honest debate means you discuss the issues. But we can't have that when the elite are supporting programs that are harmful to the majority of the population.

The OWS message is "If you have more money than me you are a greedy evil crook and I demand you give me your money. Then you can die and burn in hell"

What is there to debate?
