Power Of Attorney From Another Country

Postby Ricadene » Tue Jun 17, 2014 10:19 pm

My father, living on an island in the Caribbean, will be sole beneficiary of his sister's(who lives in Germany) estate. Due to his inability to travel, he has prepared a power of attorney with jurisdiction for our country and Germany so that I can legally represent him when I go to Germany to deal with sale of apartment, burial and any thing else that needs to be sorted out.

Is there going to be a problem with my father's power of attorney which has been prepared in our country? If so, what would you advice?

Power Of Attorney From Another Country

Hello Vicky,

the safest way would be to go to the German Embassy on Trinidad: http://www.port-of-spain.diplo.de/ and have the power of attorney set up there in English and in German and have your father's signature certified by a consular official.

This additional procedure should ensure that your power of attorney will be recognized by everyone in Germany.
