Prayer for judgement for traffic ticket in California?

Postby cleirach70 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 10:17 pm

I heard that some states like Texas have a rule called prayer for judgement for traffic tickets. With this procedure you just pay the fine for the ticket, but the ticket does not show on your record. I think there are some restrictions, such as you may only be able to use this once every couple of years. Is there something similar to this in California?

Prayer for judgement for traffic ticket in California?

In California, for most safety violations fewer than 2 points, an offender can take traffic school once every 18 months to have the conviction shielded from insurance companies. Certain violations like DUI and going more than 26+ the speed limit aren't eligible.

Other violations, like Driving While Using a Wireless Telephone Not Configured for Hands-free Use or Coasting in Neutral on Downgrade aren't eligible either because they aren't considered "safety violations" under the vehicle code.

When the courtesy notice arrives, it gives the option to accept traffic school. Selecting that, paying additional fees for it and completing it shield the conviction.
