Unions cannot talk, but I will answer. Labor unions are not the reason why workers are paid a differential for working hours that are different than the usual Monday through Friday, morning to early evening hours. You mention weekend work, but there are also evening and night pay differentials offered to shift workers usually. It isn't a matter of human rights,it is a matter of common sense by human resource policy makers for certain classes of workers. It is an incentive offered in order to get adequate numbers of workers to agree to work when most workers would rather be off. The fact that some workers would prefer working those off-times is beside the point. Human resource policy makers think they need to offer the incentive or they would not do it.
