Ran a red light but not in my car?

Postby geol19 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 12:31 pm

So I was driving my friends car for fun today, I was going 60 and the light was yellow so i tried to gas it but didn't make it in time and got my picture taken.
My friend told me that he has been in this situation before, and basically when he gets the ticket in the mail he plans on using my license number and letting them know that he wasn't the one driving it and I was responsible for running the red, and when they find out they would send me a ticket home and fine me instead. He said since I'm a new driver (started back in mid june) and I haven't gotten a ticket yet, I would only get 1 strike and if I do traffic school it would clear that strike, thus my insurance wouldn't raise.
Now the thing is I can't have my parents find out cause that would be the end of me...I already have 600 in cash right now to pay for the ticket and traffic school is no big deal...will my parents be able to find out if I stash the ticket away? I know its not the right thing to do but I don't want my parents to worry about anything since money is already bad enough for us and its my responsibility entirely, plus I don't want to have to go through all the yelling and whatnot...
So the main question is will my insurance raise If I pay the ticket the moment I get it and take traffic school right away? My friend told me it wouldn't cause he has been in this situation before and said that as long as I do traffic school they'l get rid of my strike and my record will be clear so it would be as though nothing happened, but I just want verification from someone else too. Also I'm 17 and he's 20, I'm technically not allowed to drive anyone unless they're an adult, does 20 qualify as an adult? Need answers asap! Thanks

Firstly, he's not and adult, your only allowed to drive over 21's if your a learner. If your fully qualified then you can drive whoever you want.
The ticket will come, you will have to pay it and do the course. There will be legal papers sent to you by post, as long as your folks don't see them your all clear. But you will have it on record until you do the tragic school, and it will come up on your record if you have a second offence after this. But if you don't, no you wont have it on your record, and after 3 years it gets wiped out anyway.

what you should do is if the ticket comes in the mail you should pay for it and say it was you.because that wouldnt be fair for your friend to get 3 points for running a red light.
